Phil Heath will compete in the 2010 Arnold Classic

Phil Heath is going to Columbus, announcing in a text message today that he will compete in the 2010 Arnold Classic. The message read:

"I'm in."

Heath has been quiet in recent months, since placing fifth at the 2009 Olympia. A stomach virus hit Heath hard 24 hours before the Friday prejudging and caused him to come in to the Olympia's first day roughly 10 pounds lighter than he had planned. The fifth-place finish hit Heath hard, so hard that he went back to work immediately at Gold's Flamingo in Las Vegas, training legs the morning after the Saturday night finals.

When pressed for further comment, the usually talkative Heath declined to talk about the past, or much more about the future.

"Not much more to say," Heath said. "I'll do my talking when I step on stage in Columbus."

Dexter Jackson to compete in the Arnold Classic

It's been two months since his disappointing — and surprising — third-place finish at the 2009 Olympia. Now, Dexter Jackson is ready to defend another title — the Arnold Classic.

"I'm still looking at this as if I'm the defending champion," Jackson said. "Kai (Greene) won last year, but I didn't lose it. Somebody else had to be the winner, and I was very happy for Kai. But as far as I'm concerned, it's still my title."

Jackson won his third Arnold Classic in 2008, in what many believed to be his best-ever showing until that time. In 2010, he will look to tie Flex Wheeler's Arnold Classic record of four wins.

Silvio Samuel will not compete in the 2010 Arnold Classic

For the first time in four years, Silvio Samuel will be skipping the Arnold Classic.

Samuel, who has placed in the top six in three consecutive Arnolds (6th in 2007, 5th in 2008 and 2009) will target the Tampa Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Championships on July 16-17 as his first competition in 2010.

"I will take a break to put on the size I need to put on," Samuel said. "I wanted to do the Arnold Classic, but after more thought I do not believe that competing so soon after the Olympia is in my best interest. In order to make the impact I want to make, I want to make some improvements this year."

Samuel said that his disappointing 13th-place finish at the 2009 Olympia played a part in his decision.

"The Olympia was not the result I would have liked," he said. "It's painful when you do not place where you hope. I do not blame anybody, but I was not happy with where I finished. I will take the time to improve and make sure I am better the next time I compete at the Olympia."

Freeman placed fourth in 2009 at the Arnold Classic and first at the 2009 Sacramento – showing that this mature physique is preparing to be at the top.

Big, thickly muscled and sporting some of the best thighs in the business, he is always a crowd pleaser who has the potential to do real damage in any lineup.

Shawn Ray:
Ich sitze hier mit Jay Cutler, dem 3-maligen Gewinner der Mr. Olympia und der Arnold Classics 2002, 2003 und 2004. Jay, es steht uns der 21. jährlich stattfindende Arnold Classics Wettkampf bevor und es starten sehr viele Bodybuilder bei diesem Wettkampf.

Es scheint als wäre es für alle ein Wettkampf der über ihre Karriere entscheiden kann. Wir haben zum einen den amtierenden Champion, Muscle Meds Athlet Kai Green. Wie war das für Kai Green beim Mr. Olympia 2009 auf den 4. Platz zu kommen?

Jay Cutler:
Für Kai ist es als Arnold Classic Champion sicherlich eine Herausforderung wieder anzutreten. Wenn wir uns nochmal ansehen wie es beim Mr. Olympia ablief.

Er wurde als heißer Titelanwärter gehandelt und landete dann auf dem 4. Platz. Er muss so antreten wie letztes Jahr um zu gewinnen: In einer super Form, super voll und sehr muskulös. Es gibt Athleten in diesem Wettkampf die vielleicht eine bessere Symmetrie haben. Aber niemand wird mehr Muskeln haben als Kai Green in diesem Wettbewerb.

Shawn Ray:
Wir haben da auch noch einen 3-maligen Champion, nämlich Muscle Tech Athleten Dexter Jackson. Er ist ebenfalls schon Mr. Olympia gewesen und hat dann beim letzten Mr. Olympia, im Jahr 2009, schlechter abgeschnitten.

Was wird er tun um zurück auf Erfolgskurs zu kommen? Er hat wie du 3 Siege bei der Arnold Classic. Wird er versuchen Flex Wheelers Rekord, mit 4 Titeln, zu brechen? Was muss Dexter machen um wieder durchzustarten?

Jay Cutler:
Er muss ziemlich viel von machen was er in der Vergangenheit gemacht hat. Er war früher ein Außenseiter und er war ebenso schon Favorit. Die meisten der Arnold Classic Wettkämpfe bei denen er angetreten ist hat er gewonnen. Er hat 3 Titel. Er war damals eher ein Außenseiter und man redete von anderen Athleten die vermutlich gewinnen würden.

Dexter stand dann da, in seiner altgewohnten Form und hatte da oben fast immer die beste Symmetrie. Ich denke für ihn ist es am besten einfach zu vergessen was beim 2009 Mr.Olympia passiert ist als er seinen Titel verloren hat.

Das schlimmste was passieren kann ist bei dieser Arnold Classic mit irgendeiner negativen Einstellung anzutreten und dass er sich insgeheim denkt er könne hier nicht gewinnen. Er muss denken: Hier bin ich jetzt und ich habe nochmal neu angefangen. Das ist meine Show, ich war schon mal hier und ich habe das schon mal gewonnen. Ich kann es auch wieder gewinnen.

Shawn Ray:
Lass uns über einen Athleten reden der dir beim Mr. Olympia 2009 auf den Fersen war, Muscle Tech Athleten Branch Warren. Du weißt ja auch wie es sich anfühlt beim Mr. Olympia 2ter zu werden. Es ist ja Fakt, dass du 2001 2ter wurdest und dann 2002 die Arnold Classic gewonnen hast.

Was ist mit Branch Warren, der wie du auch, 3-mal die Most Muscular Preise bei der Arnold Classics gewonnen hat. Was ist sein Plan um am Ende bei der AC als Champion da zustehen?

Jay Cutler:
Er muss so antreten wie früher. Er hatte sich auf jedem einzelnen Contest verbessert und er wird in einer super Form antreten mit ein bisschen mehr Masse. Es ist wirklich erstaunlich, dass er noch Masse drauf gepackt hat weil er ja bereits einer der breitesten Jungs da draußen war.

Seine Größe ist der einzige Nachteil den er gegenüber den größeren Athleten hat. Für Branch ist es, denke ich, am besten wenn er so Antritt wie bei der Mr. Olympia bei seiner besten Show. Ich glaube das war der beste Branch Warren den wir je gesehen haben. Auch im Jahr davor sah er großartig aus bei der Arnold Classic. Ich glaube die Arnold Classic ist der Wettkampf wo er zeigt was er kann. Er ist die vergangenen paar Jahre, bis auf letzes Jahr, beim Mr.Olympia wegen Verletzungen ausgefallen. Er muss gesund bleiben und sich 100% erholen damit er die Verletzungen weg bekommt, die ihn immer aufgehalten und aus dem Contest geworfen haben. Er ist definitiv ein Spitzenkandidat. Er hat schon gesagt, dass er antreten wird um an die Spitze zu stürmen.

Shawn Ray:
Lass uns jetzt über deinen guten Freund reden, The Gift, The Denver Nugget, MET-Rx Athlet Phil Heath. Er war Dritter bei der Arnold Classic und er hat den fünften Platz beim Mr. Olympia bei seiner zweiten Teilnahme geschafft.

Was wird dein Kumpel, Phil Heath, machen um mit dem Titel rauszulaufen?

Jay Cutler:
Phil muss vollgeladen und gerippt antreten so wie wir alle wissen, dass er es kann. Ich denke er hat sehr gute Chancen diesen Wettkampf zu gewinnen. Er hat eine sehr gute Symmetrie und er hat einen großen Vorteil, nämlich diese hauchdünne Haut. Das macht den großen Unterschied zum restlichen Line-Up aus. Das Line-Up diesesmal ist hochkarätig bestückt. Es wird viele Muskeln zu sehen geben.

Phil hat aber einen sehr einzigartigen Körper und wenn er diesen Körper gut präsentiert, und wir alle wissen er kann das, sieht es gut für ihn aus. Wir haben ihn letzes Jahr beim Mr.Olympia wegen seiner Krankheit ein wenig zurückfallen sehen. Er muss gut in Form bleiben. Ich bin die ganze Zeit in Kontakt mit ihm und er fühlt sich gut und ist sehr selbstbewusst. Er hat die Vergangenheit hinter sich gelassen und er ist auf dem Weg den Arnold Classic Sieg zu erlangen.

Shawn Ray:
Wir sehen uns wieder beim jährlichen stattfindenden 21. Arnold Classic Wettkampf. Es gibt bisher nur 13 Champions und wir werden sehen ob es dort dieses Jahr vielleicht einen 14. geben wird. Am 4.-7. März in Columbus (Ohio) werden 150.000 Fans kommen um 18.000 Athleten zu sehen die in 44 verschiedenen Wettkämpfen gegeneinander antreten. Wir sind weniger als 2 Wochen entfernt von der Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic. Dieses Jahr wird der Wettkampf selbst auch sicher mit dem ganzen Rummel rundherum mithalten können. Ich bin Lonnie Tepper, oft kopiert aber doch niemals erreicht. Ich gebe euch die Insidersicht auf den Showdown 2010.

Ich übertreibe nicht wenn ich euch sage dass es vier Athleten gibt die bei dieser Show als heiße Titelanwärter gehandelt werden. Muscletech Athlet Dexter Jackson, der dreimalige Gewinner. Wenn er nochmal gewinnt ist er gleich auf mit Flex Wheeler, der den alten Rekord von vier Siegen hält. Dexter ist nicht glücklich, weil er beim letzen Mr. Olympia nur den 3. Platz gemacht hat.

Wenn wir schon beim Mr. Olympia sind. Branch Warren war bei dieser Show auf Platz zwei.
Vergesst nicht, dass Branch letzes Jahr nicht nur einen umstrittenen dritten Platz gemacht hat, sondern auch, dass ich ihn zweifelsfrei hinter Kai Green auf Platz zwei gesehen hatte. Außerdem hat er die Most Muscular Auszeichnung bei drei Teilnahmen, dreimal gewonnen.

Wir haben auch noch MuscleMeds Athlet Kai Greene, den ich bereits erwähnt habe. Der Junge war letztes Jahr spektakulär. Nicht nur seine Form auch seine herausragende Posing-Routine. Ich weiß nicht was er gemacht hat, scheint als hätte er seine Posing-Routine im Koffer beim Mr. Olympia zurückgelassen. Als ich ihn um 3 Uhr morgens traf und mit ihm sprach, sagte ich ihm: „Kai, das ist was du bist, sei einfach wie du bist. Du hast einen großartiger Körper in mit einer phänomenalen Form, aber diese Routine gehört dazu. Alles arbeitet zusammen.“ Ich hoffe ihr versteht was ich meine, es sind einfach zwei Dinge die zusammen gehören. Du bist nicht Kai Greene wenn eines dieser beiden Dinge fehlt.

Natürlich haben wir da auch noch MET-Rx Athlet „The Gift“ Phil Heath. Heath und Green machten den vierten und fünften Platz auf der Mr. Olympia. Das waren ganz schöne Enttäuschungen. Ich habe in meinem Bericht für das Iron Man Magazine geschrieben, dass das die größten Enttäuschungen der Olympia waren. Du sagst jetzt vielleicht: Einen Moment L. T. wovon redest du da? Der vierte und fünfte Platz beim Mr. Olympia ist eine Enttäuschung? Ja so ist es. Wenn viele Menschen die zwei Jungs als Favoriten für den Wettkampf angesehen haben. Das ist richtig, so ist es. 75% der Leute mit denen ich geredet habe, z.B. beim Gespräch mit Fans die gerade ihre Bilder machten. Alle dachten diese beiden würden am Ende ganz vorne sein. Ok - Swami hatte mal wieder recht, Jay Cutler kam zurück und wurde die erste Person im Bodybuilding die erst den Titel verloren hat und dann wieder zurückgewonnen.

Das sind vier großartige Bodybuilder, aber es gibt noch mehr. Tony Freeman, „The X Man“ , 6“2 groß, 280 Pfund schwer, wunderschöner Körper, wunderschöne Linien. Er ist 43 ½ Jahre alt, kann er es schaffen? Kurz vor der Phoenix Pro habe ich vorhergesagt dass Tony gewinnen wird, bisher habe ich keine Ergebnisse, aber wenn er bei dieser Show mitmacht und sie gewinnt gibt ihm das einen enormen Schub.

Ich habe vorhin von den vier Jungs geredet die alle als Favoriten ins Rennen gehen und habt ihr jemals davon gehört, dass vier Jungs gleichzeitig als Favoriten gelten? Es gibt da vielleicht noch einen Athleten der sich auch noch mit einschmuggeln könnte und oft vergessen die Leute diesen Athleten. Ich habe schon immer gesagt, dass dieser Mann einen herausragenden Körper hat. Vielleicht ist er der am meisten unterschätzte Bodybuilder im Geschäft. Umstrittener dritter Platz bei der Iron Man Pro im Jahre 2009 und er war auch auf einem umstrittenen siebten Platz bei der Mr. Olympia wo ich ihn Anstelle von Victor Martinez auf Platz sechs gesehen habe. Es geht um Best Body Nutrition Athlet Ronny Rockel aus Deutschland. Nicht der größte Teilnehmer. Er ist ungefähr 5“6 groß und 215 Pfund schwer aber hat einen wundervoll ausbalancierten Körper.

Es gibt noch einen Kerl den ich noch nicht erwähnt habe. Einer der viele Jahre unter den ersten 5 oder ersten 6 bei der Olympia und der Arnold Classic war, „The Marvelous One“, Melvin Anthony. Wie wird er dieses Mal abschneiden? Viele Leute sehen ihn schon die Phoenix Pro dieses Wochenende gewinnen. Ich muss eingestehen ich habe ihn nicht einmal in meinen Top 5. Von einem Insider aus Arizona weiß ich, dass Melvin vor 2 Wochen noch hinterher gehinkt ist. Aber 2-3 Wochen sind im Bodybuilding eine Ewigkeit und Melvin kann inzwischen wie eine komplett andere Person aussehen. Er war schon einige Male mit Vorne dabei mit den größten Bodybuildern der Zeit. Also vergesst nicht Melvin „Marvelous“ Anthony beim Kampf um die Top 6 bei der Arnold Classic.

Dann ist da noch Kai Greens Posing-Routine und Malvin Anthonys Posing-Routine. Kai denkt er sei der größte Künstler auf der Bühne, Melvin denkt auch er sei der größte Künstler. Wir werden bald herausfinden, wer den besten Körper und die beste Routine hat.

Wir haben auch noch ein paar Athleten in der Show die bereits die Arnold Amateur Show gewonnen haben. Tarek Elsetouhi, der vor 2 Jahren gewonnen hat und Roelly Winklaar, der letzes Jahr gewonnen hat. Diese Jungs sind hervorragende Bodybuilder und könnten es auch in die Top 6 schaffen. Also schaut es euch selber an. Ich will nicht das gleiche wie Jim Lorimer sagen, nämlich dass es das beste Line Up ist welches wir hier je hatten. Dennoch muss ich sagen, das ist nicht nur normales Publicity Gerede wie wir es gewohnt sind vor einem Wettkampf, dieses Mal ist es wahr. Mit Dexter Jackson, Branch Warren, Kai Green und Phil Heath ... nenn es wie du willst, wenn die Entscheidung irgendwann einmal völlig offen ist, dann dieses Jahr bei der 2010 Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic.
